How far from Highbury Tube Station is it? Literally across the road. Come out of the station, turn left and it is on the corner of Highbury Road.
Is there a cloakroom? Yes, just by the door as you go in.
Should I get there early? One of the best things about this venue is that you can get a pretty good view from everwhere, and for an intimate venue it doesn't feel too cramped, so no real need to rush. Headliners usually come on at 9:00. If you can't get a really good spot on the dancefloor it is not a disaster - the raised bar area has better views and such is the size of the venue you don't feel too far away from the action.
Anywhere to eat nearby? A few fast food joints on Highbury Road, a variety of cafe-style eating options a little further down Upper Street, or you could share nachos at the Hen and chickens Theatre Bar - which is actually a really nice pub.

Relentless Garage Venue Guide

Reopened in 2009 after a £1 million revamp, the Highbury Garage has joined the growing list of venues who have licensed their naming rights - this time not to HMV or O2 but the energy drink brand Relentless.

The venue is certainly not the prettiest from the outside, looking like a cross between a carpark and a youth centre, but it is an excellently-proportioned and intimate venue.

All on one level with no seating, once you enter the building you can turn left to the venue bar for a pre-gig drink, or just continue straight on through the doors to the performance area. A rectangular room with an arched ceiling, viewing is pretty good from everywhere.

In front of the stage is a large area for standing, whilst further towards the back are a few small steps which lead to an area in front of the bar, which perhaps offer even better views, being slightly raised. The sound is good, and this venue can get very hot in a typical indie sweat-dripping-from-the-ceiling way, which we feel adds to the charm.

Viewing: 4/5
